The 2022 Queen Elizabeth II Gold Proof Sovereign is the first year since 2015 to have two different issues of the proof in one year, and these sovereigns are the first to feature the portrait of King Charles III by Martin Jennings.
The special reverse design was created by Jody Clark in honor of Queen Elizabeth II's remarkable reign, and it depicts an elaborately detailed Royal Coat of Arms.
The obverse of the sovereign bears the Latin legend, 'CHARLES III · DEI · GRA · REX · FID · DEF', which translates to “King Charles III, reigning by the Grace of God, Defender of the Faith.”
